Tribute to William Hannah
Tribute to William Hannah features Luke Daniels on melodeon and Neil Ewart on fiddle with guitarist Ian Carr guitar and pianist John Paul Gandy.
William Hannah was a prolific recording artist and a celebrated bandleader in the 1920s and a major influence on Jimmy Shand, though the man and his contribution to Scottish music have largely been forgotten.
Painstakingly transcribed from early 78rpm and wax cylinder recordings, Hannah’s exciting music and exceptional playing has been faithfully reproduced by four of the UK’s best traditional musicians.
A Wilkinson Excelsior c1927 (Hannah’s own signature instrument) was restored specially and played on this recording along with an earlier model used by Daniel and Peter Wyper from South Lanarkshire c1909.
