Music 4 Slough

Castleview Primary School Pennywhistle & Percussion Project

This project was in part a response to the lack of media coverage of traditional music and to the limited uptake in schools. Children who participated in the project have told us that the work has:

Strengthening of this cultural identity within ethnic communities living in the UK benefits all and is in the interest of society as a whole. The support of ethnic communities forms an important part of this work as they are turning increasingly to the arts as a means of expressing their point of view to politicians and audiences.

Slough Folk Music Academy

This is a new project based on our music academy in Bracknell offering children aged 8 – 12 and who are based in Slough a chance to learn traditional instruments and play traditional music.

Using authentic tunes and learning how to play by ear in a traditional and hands on way, Folk academy is open to beginners or those with a little playing experience who would like to try a different way of learning an instrument.

Folk academy offers small group lessons on fiddle, penny whistle or guitar with experienced folk musicians and all instruments are provided.

This Academy runs on Monday evenings at Arbour Vale School, 6.00pm – 7.00pm for absolute beginners and 7.00pm-8.00pm for beginners and those with a little musical experience.
