Rachel Robson - Viola
Rachel was born and educated in Bridlington, East Yorkshire. The peripatetic instrumental teaching system and parental support enabled her to begin the viola aged 7. Upon leaving school, she read music at The University of Manchester, then completed two years of post-graduate study at the RNCM.
Since moving to London in September 2000, Rachel has enjoyed a busy freelance schedule, working with ensembles including The Philharmonia, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, London Chamber Orchestra, English Touring Opera, Camerata Ireland, Northern Sinfonia, RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, New London Orchestra, The Orchestra of St. John's, Smith Square, Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow City Ballet, London Concertante, The Brandenburg Sinfonia and London Concert Orchestra. She is a regular deputy for the West End shows The Phantom of the Opera, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Woman in White. Session work includes work with Travis, Natalie Imbruglia and Luciano Pavorotti.
The freelance lifestyle suits Rachel extremely well, as she appreciates the variety of repertoire, personnel and location. Highlights of 2006 so far include trips to Kenya and the Seychelles, an appearance on Parkinson and playing with the rock guitar legend Uli Jon Roth. Rachel has been lucky enough to be involved in two hugely enjoyable productions at the Royal National Theatre in the last year - David Hare’s political play Stuff Happens and Shakespeare’s Henry IV.
In her spare time, Rachel enjoys cooking, being outside, knitting, eating delicious food, reading and wearing high heels.
